In the week following our May 2018 Reunion Wg Cdr Simon Blackwell handed over command of the Squadron to Wg Cdr Alistair Scott.
We wish Simon every good fortune in his new posting and subsequent career and offer our heartfelt thanks to him and those under his command for his support of the Association whilst he has been OC10. With his family links to 10 Sqn prior to his own, we know we will see him again as an Association member.
Simon updates Association members during their visit to the Hub HQ at the May Reunion, shortly before handing over command to Al Scott

WING COMMANDER ALISTAIR JAMES SCOTT, MA, BSC (Hons), RAF
OFFICER COMMANDING 10 SQUADRON
May 2018
Wing Commander Al Scott was born in Colchester in 1976.
Alistair was educated at Kimbolton School in Cambridgeshire, Southampton University (BSc (Hons) Physics), King’s College London (MA Defence Studies) and the UK Joint Services Command and Staff College.
He joined the RAF in 1995 as a pilot whilst studying at Southampton under the University Cadetship scheme. He completed officer training in 1998 and upon completion of flying training began his operational career in 2000, flying the VC10K on 101 Squadron in the Air to Air Refuelling role, subsequently qualifying in the Air Transport role as an Air to Air Refuelling Trail pilot. During this time, he flew on Exercises in Oman, Europe and North America, deployed to the Falkland Islands and flew in support of US Navy Operations over Afghanistan in the immediate aftermath of 9/11.
In 2003 as part of the initial phases of Operation TELIC (Iraq 2003 -2011) he deployed to the Combined Air Operations Centre at Prince Sultan Air Base, providing Subject Matter Expert advice to the Air Component Headquarters on Air to Air Refuelling operations. On his return to the United Kingdom he was assigned to RAF Linton-on-Ouse and in 2004 completed the QFI (Qualified Flying Instructor) course on the Tucano. He subsequently became an A2 QFI as part of the Central Flying School standards flight on the Tucano.
In 2006 he returned to RAF Brize Norton and 101 Squadron on the VC10 as an aircraft captain before selection for instructional duties as the Officer Commanding VC10 Training Flight on promotion to Squadron Leader. Since 2010 he has undertaken a number of staff roles within HQ Air Command, encompassing Flight Safety, Manning and more recently in the Capability area. A short stint on the VC10 in 2013 coincided with the aircraft’s withdrawal from service.
Wing Commander Scott lives with his wife Becky in Buckinghamshire where he enjoys playing hockey and, when time allows, cricket. They have 2 children.
We hope that he enjoys his new role and wish him every good fortune for a successful tour as OC10.
